Achiever Spotlight: Malcolm

Our monthly Achiever Spotlight highlights current and alumni Achievers. For current Achievers, we look at how the Friends-Boston program is impacting them today. For alumni, we see the role the program played in helping them to find success after they graduated. Their stories are part of our story, and we're excited to share them.

This month, we're highlighting a current Achiever: Malcolm.

__________________________________________________________________

Malcolm’s been a part of Friends-Boston for about five years, and his curiosity and excitement for learning continues to bring a smile to Jay, his Friend (professional mentor). During his time with us, Malcolm has been a good student in school and a great member of our community – always taking the opportunity to have a great time with his fellow Achievers.

Malcolm is 11 years old, and he’s the only child of a very loving mother. They also live with his grandmother and grandfather, and soon he’ll be a big brother as they welcome a new baby. He can’t wait to be a big brother!

Malcolm recently celebrated a big accomplishment in school. At the start of the 2022 school year, he had Cs in all of his classes. However, through hard work and with support from Jay, he's raised his grades in 2023 and was just awarded a place on the honor roll.

Soon, Malcolm will be graduating to our Adolescent Cohort and will move on to having a new Friend. Jay’s really enjoyed working with him, and he had this to say: “I’ve worked with Malcolm for five years in the Elementary Cohort, and he is ready for this next step in his journey. While I’m sad to see him move on, I know he’s going to thrive in this next phase of his life.”

We can’t wait to see what Malcolm will achieve as he continues to grow and learn. Whatever he does, we know he’s going to do great things!
