July 19, 2024 Achiever Spotlight: Caleb Our monthly Achiever Spotlight highlights current and alumni Achievers. For current Achievers, we look at how the Friends-Boston program is impacting them today. For alumni, we see the role the program played in helping them to find success after they graduated. Their stories are part of our story, and we're excited to share them. This month, we're highlighting a current Achiever: Caleb*. __________________________________________________________________ Caleb’s been a part of Friends-Boston since the fall of 2020, and he’s made a lot of progress within that time. When he first joined, Caleb was struggling with behavior management in school – this was when he was in first and second grade. Since then, he’s made huge improvements in self management and regulation as he’s gone through the third and fourth grade. He’s also been able to achieve a number of goals that he’s set for himself, including learning how to ride a bike and working on his ability to talk about his feelings and emotions. All of this has been made possible through the work he’s done with his Friend (Mentor) – Ryan. Currently, Ryan is working with Caleb on a goal of reading and completing a 500-page young adult novel this year – they’re already on page 378! Caleb’s also interested in physical fitness, and he’s run time miles with Ryan at a nearby track while also participating at a running program within his local community. Caleb’s mother has also been very involved in our program while also supporting her son. She was in the first graduating class of our Thrive Circle program, which is part of our overall 2Gen initiative that provides whole family support. When talking about Caleb, Ryan had this to say: “Working with Caleb has been a journey. While there have been bumps along the way, I am so proud of the person Caleb has grown into today. Caleb's goofiness can always put a smile on your face. His relentless efforts to work towards and achieve his goals is admirable. It has been a privilege to work with Caleb for the past four years, and I can't wait to see what his future holds!” We can’t wait to see what Caleb will achieve as he continues to grow and learn. Whatever he does, we know he’s going to do great things! *Name changed
