Our Boston Globe Op-Ed in Collaboration with Andrea Campbell – COVID-19

How to close Boston's achievement gap during the coronavirus pandemic.

Friends of the Children–Boston's executive director, Yi-Chin Chen and Andrea J. Campbell, Boston City Councilor for District 4, authored an op-ed that was published in the Boston Globe. The opinion piece is a response to Governor Charlie Baker's official statement that students would not return to school in person for the remainder of the year. Here is an excerpt from the piece:

Educational success during the coronavirus pandemic requires many factors to work in synchronicity: reliable Internet access, a working computer, regular and predictable access to teachers and support staff, a district-wide criteria for high-quality remote learning, social-economic supports for students and teachers, and ongoing communication with caregivers who are now responsible for setting structure and daily learning environment for their children.
