Achiever Spotlight: Ayesha
Every month, we celebrate an Achiever who shows incredible growth, perseverance, and heart. This month, we’re proud to spotlight Ayesha*, a thoughtful 7th grader who’s been part of the Friends of the Children - Boston community for four years.
Naturally reserved, Ayesha has spent much of her time in the program exploring different interests at her own pace. Thanks to the steady support of her Friend (mentor), Maricela, she’s had space to try new things and build confidence one step at a time.
After more than a year of patient encouragement, Ayesha found her spark in an unexpected place: nail design.
What started as curiosity quickly became a creative outlet. With Maricela’s support, Ayesha attended an outing with a professional nail technician that became a turning point. She watched a demonstration on her right hand—then confidently applied a full set of nails on her left hand all by herself. She selected polish colors and charms that reflected her style, and took complete ownership of the process.
Since then, she’s designed three unique nail sets and successfully applied two of them. And through every challenge, Ayesha has shown determination, patience, and focus.
“Ayesha lights up when she’s designing nails,” Maricela shared. “It’s where she’s found joy and it’s a way for her to express her creativity and independence.”
Ayesha also shines in how she treats others. She’s a strong self-advocate who consistently shows empathy and kindness, confidently voicing her goals while staying mindful of those around her. Her next step? To keep growing her skills and start creating nail sets for others.
Thank you, Ayesha, for showing us how confidence and creativity can grow when a child has the freedom to explore and someone who believes in them every step of the way.
