David Hernandez

Registrar/Director, Boston Police Academy

David Hernandez is a lifelong Boston resident and a Sergeant with the Boston Police Department, currently serving as Registrar/Director of the Boston Police Academy. In this role, he helps develop and train the next generation of Boston Police Officers, with a focus on preparing them not only for the responsibilities of the profession, but to understand the communities and people they are entrusted to serve and the importance of building trust through meaningful relationships.

David is also a co-founder of LLEGO Boston, where he has helped create programs focused on mentorship, community engagement, and opening pathways into careers in law enforcement. Through this work, more than 250 participants have gone on to become police officers since 2017, helping increase representation within law enforcement and building departments that better reflect the communities they serve.

David holds an MBA from Boston University’s Questrom School of Business. Throughout his work, he believes meaningful change starts with investing in people, creating opportunities, and helping the next generation recognize what they are capable of becoming.

"I chose to dedicate my time to Friends of the Children-Boston because I believe one consistent person, showing up at the right time in a young person’s life, can change the direction of their future.”
